Jom Makan

Success! Well, that might be overstating it a bit, but we did pull off the dinner. Our guests were fed and watered and went home with smiles on their faces. We heard reports of a hangover or two in the am - the tell tale sign of a successful dinner party.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the florists were CLOSED for Chinese New Year. Luckily, Mr. Happy used some creativity and went to a Hindu temple. For those of you who don't know, there are always stalls of people busy making garlands to place on the alter. They sold us a few lotus flowers!

I also put my creative hat on and made placecards out of chili peppers!

The Menu

Upon arrival we plied our guests with guava margaritas and Mr. Happy's grilled vegetable tarte along with baked vegetable tortillas and fresh mango salsa

We then moved on to spicy black bean soup.

Served with my homemade garlic and onion bread. The second loaf turned out. Horrah!

For mains we had Chicken Chilaquiles for the meat eaters and Peppers stuffed with quinoa, bleu cheese and pine nuts for the veggies. This was accompanied by corn souflee (which didn't rise! think it was my pan...) and grilled vegetables.

I think the mains might not have suited our guests pallets' so well. Mexican food is pretty unusual here and not sure they were big fans. Mr. Happy and I loved it though!

For dessert, everyone's favorite. Los Platanos Flambe.

Honestly, if you set something on fire you cannot go wrong. This was served with BUD vanilla bean ice cream. A hit!

After dinner we took our cheese, fruit, and dessert wines up to our roof deck garden until the wee hours of the night (or morning).

Bon Appetite!
